Johnson Sand & Gravel: Conquering subgrade challenges to build commercial concrete foundations
A reputable ready-mix supplier is critical to getting our jobs done with quality materials. Therefore, when our supplier, Johnson Sand & Gravel in New Berlin, Wisconsin was constructing two new commercial buildings we were honored to serve as the subcontractor with Duffek Construction.
Our craftsmanship and commitment to getting the job done right motivated our partner and the lead construction team to use us to set the foundations for their maintenance and office headquarters in 2020.
The site of the office building brought challenges related to subgrade. To overcome the subgrade challenge and provide needed strength, the Kurk team used lean mix concrete to achieve suitable sub-base strength.
The maintenance building required a thickened edge slab with reinforced column footings. The office building is a traditional wood framed building on a 48″ frostwall.
